If $4-or-more-a-gallon gas is what we face this summer, then it's time to find a way to handle it. Here's one way to ease the pain: Invest in something that benefits from high gasoline prices.

What are the best plays on expensive oil?

"I don't think that's a real hard question," said James Paulsen, chief investment strategist at Wells Capital Management, which is a unit of Wells Fargo.

Summer Break. The words are a relaxing mantra that transports one's thoughts to warm climates, sunny beaches and tropical paradise. It's that calming "light at the end of the tunnel" that carries one away from the stress of studying, taking tests and completing projects.

So, I'm spending my summer here in London for an amazing internship at a fashion magazine. Though I work in the editorial department, I recently visited the fashion room to get the low-down on the hottest (quite literally) summer trends of 2008.

"London has a folksy, 70's-era style that hasn't changed much in the past few years," said a fashion assistant, in an attempt to briefly generalize London street style.

Let me start off by saying, "Welcome to the College of Charleston!" Now that I have gotten that out of the way, I want to sit down with you all and express how much of a privilege it is to attend this highly distinguished (read: affordable) institution:

Ever since the beginning of your tumultuous days of high school, I am almost certain there never came a time where you stopped and told yourself that you would be perfectly fine spending the rest of your days as a 'Trojan', 'Spartan' or the any of the other countless, ancient Rome-inspired high-school mascots out there.

While the 2007-08 school year may have ended May 2, Cougar athletics were still in full gear throughout the month fighting for bids at the national titles in baseball and sailing.

The teams have had tremendous success in the past including the 2007 baseball Southern Conference Championship and the 2007 sailing Dinghy Championship and continued to dominate in Spring 2008.

After more than a yearlong battle for the Presidential nomination, the contest is over, and Barrack Obama is the victor. However, there is still one nomination left to be considered. This is, of course, the vice presidential bid for the Democratic Party, and the Clinton campaign is obviously more than hopeful that she secures this nomination.

Thank you for not stopping at the title, because I know it's frustrating for a random student to shove advice at you as you pick up the campus newspaper for the first time. Keep reading and you will discover the good news; the author is not your older brother who has managed (once again) to sabotage you during orientation.

Welcome to Charleston!

I know you're thinking that move-in weekend can't come soon enough, well let me tell you- it will! We're very excited that you're on campus for orientation. This is the best time for you to get acclimated with the campus community. I highly recommend that you take advantage of what orientation has to offer!

The orientation seminars and classes provide you with the most information possible so that no one would believe you were a first-year student.

Americans are a tenacious people. We love to win, we're ecstatic when the underdog wins, we want to be inspired, and we are filled with joy when individuals rise to the occasion against immense odds. That is why the Democratic Party has nominated Barack Obama and why he will be the next President after the November election.
