Student shot on St. Philip Street

A College of Charleston freshman was shot in an attempted armed robbery late Monday night in front of 213 St. Philip St.

Peter Vagnoni, 21, was shot in the stomach after a black male suspect asked Vagnoni and his friend for money. Vagnoni said he didn't have any money before the suspect shot him and fled north towards Bogard Street.

Police immediately blocked off that portion of St. Philip St. while emergency officials transported Vagnoni to MUSC. RN Kristy Nagel said that he was taken to the operating room, according to the police report.

I think the way the college handles its students saftey is horrible. I am a student at the college and when I head to my early morning classes or come home from my late night classes I feel that the college does absolutely nothing to make students feel more comfortable on the streets. It's a shame that the state doesn't force the college to hire security to be outside walking amongst the students at all times.

The College has dropped the ball as far as reporting on this or issuing statements. The crime alert released the day after the shooting was shamefully misleading. Someone was shot - just proves the total disregard that Campus Safety has on information and education about crime in the area. Check out their webpage - the crime statistics were last update in 2005. Shame shame Paul V. Verrecchia.
