Students from across the Charleston area came together last Saturday to ring in a new school year at ‘Rock The Block’. Charleston Southern, The Citadel, The Art Institute and our College of Charleston were well represented on a very packed George St. while volunteers handed out pizza, cotton candy, drinks, and other snacks.
Reggae Hip-Hoppers and frequent block rockers, Papa Robbie & The Reggae All Stars, returned to get people literally dancing in the streets. Thrill seekers could indulge their badside with a ride on the mechanical bull or a scramble up the climbing wall, though they likely weren’t the same who pounded pizza and cotton candy.
Despite rhythm indiscriminate linedancers and a few mosquitoes, the night went well, almost reaching it’s lofty one a.m. finish.
‘Rock The Block’ has turned into a yearly tradition for local students seeking to mingle across the campus line and enjoy a cool fall night.
