College Foundation buys plantation

President P. George Benson announced on Sept. 25 that the College would purchase the McLeod Plantation on James Island from the Historic Charleston Foundation. “McLeod Plantation is rich in historical, cultural and ecological significance, and presents the College of Charleston with a unique opportunity to save and preserve a cherished local landmark while enhancing academic and recreational offerings for its students,” Benson said. Amnesty policy gives students second chance

The College passed an amendment to the current alcohol policy on Sept. 28 to encourage students to seek help during alcohol-related medical emergencies. The policy states that any student in need of medical care during an alcohol-related emergency may seek care without fear of being subjected to student disciplinary action.

Planned Parenthood campaigns for healthcare reform

C of C participants along with Planned Parenthood will be going door to door in the Charleston area to promote Planned Parenthood’s Prevention First campaign every weekend in October. Launched on Sept. 20 and running until Oct. 25, the campaign will focus on improving healthcare in South Carolina.

Annual Security Report numbers released

Public Safety released C of C’s 2008-2009 Annual Crime Statistics and Fire Safety Report on Sept. 20. Federal law requires the College to release this information to the public. Burglary and motor vehicle theft have decreased on campus and in residence halls since 2006, according to the report.
