A student was found dead in his off-campus home on Spring Street on Oct. 19.
Timothy Jones, 20-years-old, was found unresponsive Sunday morning and pronounced dead on arrival by Charleston County EMS.
A roommate of Jones called EMS at 10:18 a.m. and the EMS arrived at 10:22 a.m.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy, but officials said that the results were not available yet. The office performed a full toxicology report as well as many other tests that will be released in the coming weeks.
The cause of death was unknown as of Oct. 21, but Jones did not have any trauma or signs of diseases, said coroner Rae Wooten.
“The death, cause and manner are pending further investigation,” Wooten said. “Frequently at this point a lot of things are undetermined.”
Associate dean of students, Evelyn Nadel, notified faculty, staff and students via e-mail Monday afternoon.
Jones was a junior communication major with a concentration in media studies and also an active member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Members of the fraternity were distraught by the news and wrote a statement released to the GSO on Monday evening.
“He will forever be greatly loved and missed by everyone he touched during his time with us,” the letter stated. More of the letter can be read on page 4A.
Lane Johnson, president of the Interfraternity Council echoed the thoughts and feelings of the letter.
“Tim was a great guy and was friends with the whole Greek and campus community,” he said. “He put a smile on everyone’s face and he will be deeply missed.”
