Rescue project coming to Charleston

Three Californians have been raising awareness and money for Uganda’s “invisible children” ever since they saw the situation first hand in 2003. Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey and Laren Poole first showed their documentary, “Invisible Children,” in 2004 as part of their mission to end the abduction of child soldiers in the long-standing rebel war in Uganda, according to InvisisbleChildren.

Store coming to Lodge

Clyde’s convenience store is handling more business than it can take, so Aramark decided to build a new, larger store located in the current game room of College Lodge. While the store will have many new amenities, the location of the store sparked debate among the students at Aramark’s question and answer session on April 16.

Battle In The Gardens

An entire semester of gathering donations, artists and art paid off for the arts management department’s event practicum class last Thursday at Battle Royale. The event was effectively an arts competition for finalists in three categories: visual art, dance and music, and was judged by Robert Ivey, Allison Sprock and T.

Kulture Klash Returns

Kulture Klash has drawn huge crowds since it’s creation in 2007 and the fourth go ‘round was no exception. Lovers of art in all its forms packed the massive 40,000 square-foot warehouse off Cosgrove Avenue. They were treated to the works of more than 60 artists from Charleston and the Southeast covering the walls and floor, three stages featuring a dozen different musicians, live graffiti art, skateboarders, belly dancers, Brazilian drummers, break dancers, and the funkiest putt putt course in this hemisphere.

Softball loses three of five in USC Upstate Spartan Classic

The softball team lost three out of five games this past weekend at the USC Upstate Spartan Classic and fell to 4-9 overall for the season. In the two-day tournament, the Cougars won two of three against University of Maryland Baltimore County but lost against Presbyterian and USC Upstate.

Men’s basketball team beats Chattanooga, plays Wofford tonight

College of Charleston (21-7) men’s basketball team defeated Chattanooga (15-14) in the final away game of the regular season. Sophomore guard Andrew Goudelock led scorers with 21 points as the Cougars topped the Mocs, 86-77. Sophomore guard Donovan Monroe capped off a career high of 18 points in a slam-dunk in the middle of the second half.

What I Learned in College

Four years ago, I and the soon-to-be graduate class of 2009 came to the College of Charleston as naive freshmen, eager to begin what was then a new and exciting experience, the college experience. We had all heard tales about wild keg parties, “experimental” behavior, and how our parents missed what they remembered as the best days of their lives.

‘Sexting’ Overkill

Any district attorney who said he wanted to pursue one out of every five teenagers on felony child pornography charges would be laughed out of the courthouse then booted from office by voters at the next election. But that’s the implication of the disturbing crackdowns by prosecutors in upstate Pennsylvania, North Jersey and other communities over teens’ immature practice of circulating racy photos of themselves by cell phone message and online.

Listen up nerds...

This is a long time coming. I am growing tired of nerds. This is also an act of self-loathing so don’t go all jumping down my throat for being a hypocrite. I know I am. I am growing sick of nerds and nerd culture and it’s not because of my lack of nerdish interests.
